Includes all or portions of 9 incorporated towns: Burr Ridge, Clarendon Hills, Darien, Downers Grove, Hinsdale, Westmont, Willowbrook, and a small portion of Oak Brook, Woodridge and unincorporated Lemont. The General Assistance program provides monthly financial service for people attempting to enter or re-enter the work force. Also, the program provides financial assistance to people who have a pending Social Security Disability application. If approved for financial assistance, certain medical care may also be provided. This program is designed for people who have no income. Emergency Assistance is offered to township residents who may have a pending applicaton or are not eligible for Public Aid or General Assistance, but are faced with a financial emergency. The program is designed for people who meet the income guidelines. Help with utilities, rent and food is available. The GA office also takes applications for the LIHEAP program. LIHEAP is help with heating bills during the winter season. A one time payment will be made directly to both heating and electricity suppliers to help qualified households. The program runs from September to the end of May. We also offer referrals to other agencies that may help. Downers Grove Township is now an intake / enrollment location for Access DuPage. Residents of the township can call our office for further information or to make an appointment. FISH, an all-volunteer ecumenical organization. provides a food pantry and clothes closet, located in the basement of the township office building. General Assistance includes: Financial aid to meet the basic needs of individuals for health and well being. In order to be eligible, a person must meet the financial and non-financial requirements, and have no other potential means of income. This is an ongoing grant program with Work Program requirements. Emergency Assistance: Financial assistance to alleviate a life threatening circumstance or meet a basic need such as food, rent, utilities, prescriptions, or personal hygiene items. Assistance is issued once in a 12 month period to Township residents who meet the financial eligibility requirement. Salvation Army: Funds for the villages of Lisle and Woodridge are issued through the Township. These limited funds are used to meet a financial crisis such as utility disconnection, lack of medication or possible eviction. LIHEAP-The Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) assists eligible low-income households in paying for winter energy services. This program ends for each season on May 31st. Circuit Breaker - an Illinois Department of Revenue program that provides for tax relief and pharmaceutical assistance to income eligible seniors and the disabled. Food Pantry: Open Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 8:30 - 10:30am and 2:30 - 4:00 pm. Call one day ahead for appointment. Foods provided by Dominicks and Jewel (produce, baked goods, etc) are available Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 11:00 to 12:00. No appointment necessary for fresh goods. Lisle Township residents in need may use the pantry once a month.

The General Assistance office provides the following resources: LIHEAP (low income home energy assistance program) applications taken by appointment during the heating season, Salvation Army funds, A Pastor’s Fund of donated monies is administered by the GA Office, Emergency Assistance addresses Basic Needs such as groceries, rent, utilities, household supplies, personal hygiene items, prescriptions to township residents who qualify by income. This is available once in a 12-month period. General Assistance is a state-mandated program for those who do not fit into categories administered by Social Security or Dept. of Human Services. This is an ongoing grant program with Work Program requirements. The GA Office also organizes an Adopt-a-Family program for low-income families during the holiday season.


York Township

Assistance with food, rent, utilities, and medications is available to qualified residents. Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) applications are taken from September to May, or depending on available funding. Access DuPage applications are also taken by appointment only. The General Assistance office operates a food pantry based solely on private contributions. It also administers Salvation Army funds for Lombard residents. To meet with a caseworker, please call 620-2400 for an appointment, Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Senior Center Services include: Senior Ride program -arranges transportation to grocery stores, medical appointments, and general shopping, meal delivery to homebound seniors, driving courses, hearing tests, and recreational activities. Senior Center staff also helps members with medical claims and applications for energy assistance and other federal senior programs. Food Pantry Hours: M, T, Th 9–11:00 and 1–3:00, W, F 9–11:00.
